The jury in Kenosha, Wisconsin did what fair-minded, informed people hoped it would do: It acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse Friday afternoon, concluding that he had shot his attackers in self-defense.
The defendant was overwhelmed with emotion after the verdict was read aloud shortly after 12 noon. Fortunately, rioting did not break out on the Kenosha streets as was feared. However, there was some unrest in Portland last night. (How could Portland NOT riot???)
Predictably, many politicians, the media vermin, and left-wing organizations (e.g., the League of Women Voters, ACLU, the NBA Social Justice Coalition, to name a few) condemned the verdict.
I have long said that one of the most sickening aspects of Democrats is their reflexive tendency to condemn law abiding people and put dirtbags and reprobates up on a pedestal. But anyone with a sense of decency would not lionize the victims in the Rittenhouse case who were shot on Aug. 25, 2020.
For those who wish to read a quick summary of the felony records of the two men fatally shot by Rittenhouse, reporter Andy NgĂ´ did a nice job on Twitter just a couple days after the shootings occurred. In summary, one was a convicted pedophile; the other was a domestic abuser who had been convicted in a strangulation case.
One thing to keep an eye on is whether Rittenhouse will file defamation lawsuits against certain news outlets, as Covington, Kentucky teen Nicholas Sandmann did following that January 2019 incident at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. CNN and the Washington Post settled with Sandmann.
Let's remember that Rittenhouse, in addition to carrying his AR-15 rifle, also brought along a fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Despite the grotesque mischaracterizations of him by the media jackals, Rittenhouse wanted to help out, not go after protesters like a mass killer. Authorities attempted to find any social media posts, texts or other evidence that Rittenhouse was a white supremacist, as his hateful critics had charged, but of course came up empty.
But the dullards of the corrupt media often assume that any white guy who owns firearms is an irredeemable, deplorable racist and white supremacist. All the more if he drives a pickup truck, shops at Walmart, and voted for Trump. When will they ever learn? Probably never.
Just as we've seen on multiple occasions (Sandmann, Tawana Brawley, Duke lacrosse players, Jussie Smollett, et al), narrative-driven journalism has fallen flat on its face once again. I would love for Mr. Rittenhouse to sue the pants off of the most egregious of the media vermin. He's even talked about suing Sleepy Joe Biden, but you know that lawsuit would never get anywhere.
Godspeed to Kyle and his family. And a message to the haters of the left: It's stupid to chase after and threaten someone who's carrying a piece. Stupidity can get you killed.
