The Posse wishes you and yours a Happy and healthy New Year!
Many of us have suffered loss over the past year -- the loss of loved ones, jobs, financial stability and confidence in our nation's future. But if there's one thing the start of a new year brings, it's the opportunity to think positively and do what we can to improve our own lives and the lives of other people.
Let us remember that our fate -- both in the temporal world and in the afterlife -- is based on choices and decisions we make each and every day. Just as an obese person didn't get that way overnight (it took many incidents of choosing to eat the wrong foods and deciding not to exercise), so do unhappy or angry people often bear a lot of responsibility for their poor state of mind. Think of choices and decisions as building blocks in the larger structure (life).
Everyone has their cross to bear, as the expression goes. But there's enough good in the world (in people, events and nature, for example), and enough positive energy inside each of us, that we are all capable of finding peace, happiness and contentedness.
As Abraham Lincoln famously declared, “Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.”
It's been a rough time, and more difficult days are ahead. But there's something to be said for being a happy warrior. By counting our blessings, maintaining gratitude and resolving to always put our best foot forward, we'll be all right.
Now let's get going!
