As most people are aware, the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits the government from restricting free speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of worship. But it does not apply to private companies and organizations.
Consequently, when corporations are dominated by woke leftists, as is the case with Silicon Valley Big Tech firms that dominate the Internet and social media world, they have free reign to censor conservatives and anyone else with whom they disagree. And Lord knows, emboldened by recent election results and the pile-on against Trump following the disgraceful Capitol mayhem, they've been taking full advantage of it.
Apple and Amazon.com have kicked Parler's app out of their app stores because the micro-blogging platform supposedly hosted insurrectionists who incited a riot and attempted to overthrow the federal government. Amazon has booted Parler, a conservative alternative to Twitter, from its hosting servers. Parler is filing suit.
Rumble, a Toronto-based alternative to YouTube, has sued Google for slanting its search results (via the magical algorithms) to exlude Rumble videos and direct users to YouTube videos.
For months before this latest purge, Twitter and Facebook were suspending conservatives' accounts for such "transgressions" as posting links to the New York Post coverage of the Hunter Biden corruption stories. Shadow banning and removing followers from Twitter accounts have been commonplace.
We've known for a long time, that liberals and progressives absolutely won't tolerate dissent or disagreement. "RACIST!" "BIGOT!" "NAZI!" are some of the infantile pejoratives the left resorts to when someone pushes back on their crap (not to mention, plenty of foul four-letter words, also par for the leftist course).
These days, so-called "cancel culture" has in some cases replaced the foul-mouthed outbursts. You don't agree? You voted for Trump? You won't refute conspiracy theories about a stolen election? You're OUTTA HERE! You're banned from this platform, or you're fired, or you're ostracized and forced to do a mea culpa to keep your job or not be demoted. (Oh, but Islamic terrorists, repressive Chinese dictators and porn peddlers are always welcome to remain on the platform. Double standards and libs/progressives go together like a hand and a glove.)
We've seen this cancel culture in academia for many years. A university schedules a commencement speaker who isn't a leftist, and the childish and spoiled students raise holy hell. The cowardly and spineless administrators often cave in immediately. If they don't, the student body will show up with megaphones and shout down the speaker, possibly even trashing the venue.
It has long disturbed me that so many millions of young people are utterly ignorant about U.S. and world history, the U.S. Constitution, and the basic functioning of a capitalist economy. Instead, they've been indoctrinated with a plethora of anti-American, radical ideas not grounded in history or reality. But perhaps an even more serious problem is that they actually subscribe to an intolerant, totalitarian groupthink and do not have the critical thinking skills or analytical ability to debate ideas and beliefs on their merits. This is one of the great failures of our vaunted higher education system.
In totalitarian communist countries, "disappearing" individuals who refuse to fall in line is a common practice going back many decades. In many cases, these poor souls end up in atrocious prisons where they'll face torture and untold depravity for the rest of their lives. In some cases, they're sent to a concentration camp or simply lined up against the wall and shot dead by a firing squad. China has disappeared numerous people, including doctors who attempted to tell the truth about the country's lies and coverup regarding Coronavirus. Vladimir Putin has ruthlessly murdered journalists who write anything critical about him or his government.
If the federal government continues to gravitate toward cancel culture as have Big Tech and other corporations, it's not a great leap for it to enter into the realm of the monstrous. Don't look to the ACLU to defend individuals from this corrosive cancer; they've absolutely sold out to the hard left.
Expect the Biden/Harris administration, a left-wing Congress, Big Tech and a compliant, lapdog media to ramp up the thought & speech police during the next few years. They're either too arrogant or too stupid (or possibly both) to realize that by doing so, they're continuing to poke the hornet's nest of 74 million angry, disgruntled and cynical people who are fed up with a corrupt and abusive deep state and absolutely will not shut up or lie down.
They'd best be careful, because if they keep it up, this won't end well.
What are examples of these radical ideas?
