I have complained for years about the dumbing down of the voting process and the damage it does to our democracy. Examples include early voting, provisional ballots, an ungodly number of absentee ballots, extended poll hours, ballot harvesting, no photo ID requirement, and "motor/voter" policies in which people are automatically registered to vote when they renew their driver license or register a vehicle.
In the first place, it appalls me that so many Democrats work their tails off to register ignorant, uninformed people -- folks who often have no skin in the game -- to get out there and vote for anyone with a "D" by his name. People who don't have the gumption to get off their duffs to obtain a photo ID and register to vote probably don't deserve the privilege of voting.
One of the most stupid and absurd arguments I've ever heard is that for many people, it's a hardship or too great an expense to obtain a photo ID. The Democrat leftists who spout this nonsense are too dense to realize they're insulting their own supporters.
Voting by mail is another playground for voter fraud, and wouldn't you know it, California allows counties to mail every voter a ballot. About 13 million voters received a ballot last year, and you know what comes next: Ballot harvesting. It goes with mail-in votes like a hand-in-a-glove.
Unions, community activist groups and other partisans are allowed to go door-to-door and collect ballots, then drop them off in bulk at precincts. The trouble is, no one is monitoring them to ensure there's no funny business. Who's to say they don't coerce people to vote for Democrats (especially the elderly, poor and those who do not speak English well). And isn't there a good chance that if they know which ballots support Republicans, they will exclude those from their "package delivery" at the polling station?
In many states, ballot harvesting is illegal, and for good reason. Or, it is restricted to giving your ballot to a designated relative who can then turn it in to election officials.
Ballot harvesting helps explain why several Republican congressional candidates in California thought they were going to win by late in the day Nov. 6, but then a huge uptick in votes for their opponents came during the next few days. And that's another thing: Isn't it alarming how "Election Day" is turning into "Election DAYS" in Democrat districts such as Broward and Miami-Dade counties in Florida? It is like a banana republic when a county keeps counting ballots for more than a week after Election Day.
In other words, Boss Daley writ large. "Vote early and vote often," as they used to say in the Windy City. Perhaps Democrats' motto ought to be, "We're all Chicagoans now!" Or how about "Count late and keep counting."
Alarmingly, Democrats in the U.S. House have proposed their "For the People Act," which would require all states to adopt automatic voter registration based on names in state and federal agency databases. Can't let anyone getting food stamps not pull the lever for Democrats now, can we? The bill also would allow same-day and online voter registration. Right now, even if this misguided legislation passed, the Senate would shoot it down. If by some fluke it got through the Senate, Orange Julius would veto it.
But who knows what will happen in the 2020 elections? If the Democrats take control of the White House, plus the Senate and House in 2021, it would not surprise me at all if they put their voters on auto pilot. I can see them enacting this legislation, or perhaps ramrodding through an automatic voting system tied into tax returns and social security numbers. Maybe it would have a checkoff box like the one that gives taxpayers the option of having $3 of their tax money go toward the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. Only this time, the checkmark would mean, "Yes, I approve of you counting all of my future votes as going toward Democrat candidates."
The process cannot be totally on auto pilot, however, since ballot proposals and unique situations arise, and some voters would balk at the idea since they prefer to vote a split ticket. But this proposed legislation moves us closer to signing up a permanent Democrat army of voters and eliminating the nettlesome problem of low voter turnout due to lack of interest and/or inclement weather. (It goes without saying, many of those names will remain active posthumously!)
At any rate, our ballot integrity is under withering attack. The Democrats, whose singular lust for power and control knows no bounds, are effectively vitiating the voting process. It's late in the ball game, and things are not looking good.
