Recall that I have written often about how the GOP and Democrats teaming up to support or oppose something -- be it proposed legislation, a cause or a statement uttered by a public figure -- ought to raise the red flags.
And in my "Drama Queens Atwitter" posting of April 2010, I stated that when the liberals and news media are flipping their lids, just absolutely coming unhinged about a conservative's proposed legislation or public proclamation, then someone must be doing something right.
Case in point: Presidential candidate and gadfly billionaire Donald Trump, who dared to suggest, in the wake of the Nov. 13 Paris terrorist attacks and the Dec. 2 San Bernardino, California shootings, that the United States should ban immigration for all Muslims.
Judging by the 24/7 hysteria by the news media and politicians of both parties, you'd think he suggested we level every mosque in America and deport all Muslims, starting yesterday. Trump's suggestion may be a bit heavy-handed and impractical. But it at least changed the conversation and serves as an opening "demand" in a long-term "negotiations" process. It is sort of like when opposing parties at the bargaining table (e.g., an auto company and its union leaders, or politicians from opposite sides of the aisle quabbling over budget cuts) start out with a proposal they know isn't going to happen. Then, when they compromise, it makes them look reasonable and helps them end up with something close to what they were really seeking.
Perhaps all immigration should be halted temporarily while this nation sorts out its broken immigration system and figures out how to thoroughly vet people from nations in troubled regions of the world. It's not just Muslims who could pose problems. What about hispanics from narco-trafficking nations in Latin America? Or Russian immigrants tied in with organized crime? This nation is drowning in debt, has 93 million adults not in the job market, a crumbling infrastructure and a dysfunctional healthcare system. We cannot take care of our own as it is. Isn't it reckless and outrageous to still be allowing immigrants in -- especially immigrants who don't tend to assimilate with the mainstream?
The nonstop Trump bashing by TV talking heads and the ink-stained wretches of the print media is pathetic. As I've often noted, about 99 percent of the news media consists of parrots utterly incapable of thinking for themselves; totally devoid of the thoughtful convictions and courage that might prompt them to go against the grain. Even Tom Brokaw, put out to pasture years ago, couldn't resist spouting off with a diatribe that tried to tie in FDR's internment of Japanese Americans with Trump's proposal. Apples and oranges, anyone?
A well-publicized 2011 survey by the Pew Foundation found that although just 1 percent of Muslim respondents agreed that "suicide bombing/other violence against civilians is always justified to defend Islam from its enemies," an alarming 12 percent said it is "sometimes" or "rarely" justified. That's way too large a minority to brush off as so-called "Islamophobia," as the mindless leftists in the media and government do with knee-jerk regularity.
And besides, it is well established that Islam permits its adherents to lie and deceive if it furthers the religion. There are doubtless thousands of American Muslims who can, for years, lay low and give off the appearance of being law abiding, good citizens. But when the time is right, they will strike like a scorpion. The two jihadist killers in San Bernardino, Sayed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, appeared to be a young family assimilating well with their community. They had a six-month-old baby, and Farook had worked for five years as a county health inspector.
But despite our nation's thorough surveillance and watch lists overseen by the Department of Homeland Security, these two vermin were completely under the radar and caught authorities off guard. It turns out Malik had pledged allegiance to ISIS in a Facebook post. And Farook's neighbor, Enrique Marquez, purchaser of the firearms used in the attack, had spoken to people about sleeper cells and terrorism, his coworkers said. Marquez, incidentally, was of Mexican descent and converted to Islam. That in itself ought to have raised red flags.
The world has really been turned upside down when Muslim extremists have slaughtered and wounded dozens of people in numerous incidents (Boston, Fort Hood, Chattanooga, Tennessee and San Bernardino) and the threat of more such attacks is very real, yet the morons in the news media cannot get off their high horse denouncing an admittedly blowhard candidate who often shoots from the hip, but whose candor is sorely needed in a politically correct world.
It's no wonder the public regards journalists with utter contempt -- the kind usually reserved for sleazy used car salesmen. After all, when you get right down to it, they're both peddling about the same crap.
