A week ago, the Posse noted that a friend of ours was deploying with his National Guard unit to help restore order in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
We tantalized our readers with hopes of first-hand reportage, news that would break through the mainstream media filter and show events as they actually transpired by one of our citizen-soldiers on the ground.
In short, we thought we'd have a pretty nifty web exclusive.
For the next few days, we've been eagerly awaiting news of his fate, scouring our email inbox for the slightest hint of news.
Was he okay? Was there even internet access?
Was he so absorbed in fighting the Cajun C.H.U.D. that he had no time to contact us?
Yesterday afternoon he called us on his cell phone, and he gave our eager ears this message, which we pass on to our news-starved readers:
"I have not yet left Michigan."
There you have it, a first-person account that eludes the Blame Bush media meme.
Apparently his unit achieved the required strength and has a surplus of volunteers. He and others are trying to get orders but most likely will stand down.
If nothing else, this should put a bullet in the head of the "We need to pull the National Guard out of Iraq because none are left here" nonsense.
