Momentous times indeed. You know what though....

All my life I have watched the Arab/Israeli conflict played out in the news. Could it be possible for there to be democratic reform in the ME? Could it be that someday Israel and its Arab neighbors will live in peace? Until now I haven't even considered such a scenario. What an outrageous thought. I can honestly say the idea hasn't occurred to me until recently.

Is there actually reason for hope?

I also never thought I'd see a Republican House of Representatives. I never dreamed the Soviets would simply disappear into thin air - I was born in 1958 and I did 'duck and cover' drills in school as a kid. It just didn't seem possible.

From the beginning of the Iraq conflict I have been unable to see what this would look like in 10-20 years. Is it possible that it could actually work out to be HUGELY beneficial to both US interests and the people in the region?

I know, I know. Pipe dream. But I'll say this, if I were a ME despot, I'd take the money and run. Right now. It isn't worth the risk. Take my ill gotten gains and get my butt to France would be the plan.

One thing I do know, whatever happens it'll be a cold day in hell before anyone outside the US or on the left give Bush credit for any positive outcome.
