The Posse hadn't bothered to comment on the importance of the US Navy in tsunami relief efforts because it seemed, well, obvious.
The UN poses and the US produces; it's the same old story.
However, an alert Powerline reader has just made a connection that had eluded us: The USS Bonhomme Richard, currently assisting in humanitarian relief, is the self-same ship of "anti-war" deserter Pablo Paredes.
Ah, the irony.
Paredes won the fulsome praise of the usual anti-war idiots for his refusal to participate in an "immoral war" and yet his ship we re-routed to help provide life-saving assistance in the face of a massive natural disaster.
This is of course why the military does not allow rank and file members to have veto power over deployments.
Paredes could have made a very important difference had he done his duty. He would have been among the fortunate few who actually are making an immediate difference in the Indian Ocean, saving lives daily.
Instead he's warming a cell and rehearsing his peacenik talking points.
Could we ask for a better example of how "humanitarians" end up achieving the opposite of their goal?
