Seven days in May

The computer has been having some issues and I at least may not be blogging for a bit.  Other Posse members are encouraged to step of, course (hint, hint).

Meanwhile, the degree to which the mainstream press is in the tank for Obama continues to impress.  Though I'm horrified at the thought of him in the White House (let alone the Democrat nominee), I can't help but enjoy the increasing anger and frustration of the Clintons as they watch their once-pliable instrument turn on them.

Will McCain be able defeat either of them?  Sure.  It is worth pointing out that for most of 2000, Al Gore was not only far out in front but widely hailed as "inevitable."  Why we even had academics with charts and tables to prove it.  Gore did not have the messianic cult of Obama, but he did have his own Savior of the Planet vibe and George W. Bush was far less qualified than John McCain.

The point?  It's still anyone's race.

New Aussie Posse Member

I am pleased announce that the great and ever-amusing Tim Blair has become an Honorary member of the Posse.  Tim's blog was one of the first I linked to and it is still one of my most viewed.

This august distinction is awarded to all who have added us to their blogroll and link once in a while.  It confers the right to drop in on other Posse members unannounced and borrow ammunition, whiskey and transport.

New look

I've been doing some design work to make the Posse look a little different.  Let me know what you think.

Giving thanks in 2007

The past few years haven't been particularly easy.  Repeated job losses, health concerns and the near moribund state of Michigan's economy (and the total absence of leadership on the part of the state government) have made for a rather difficult time.

Still, these hardships have helped focus my priorities.  This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for what I have, all of it.  I had a realization last summer and in the months since I've only become more convinced of it.  It is simply this: the most important job before me is being a parent.

Now this may seem to be a bit of a cliche to many of our readers.  That's because liberals have turned this truth into an empty slogan for raising taxes.  Basically anything becomes an excuse for higher taxes (or more state intervention - usually both) to the a liberal.

However, one thing that I have noticed is that unlike the allegedy money-grubbing conservatives, liberals have a highly developed sense of greed and entitlement when it comes to their values.

For example, their idea of "reforming" schools is to pay teachers more for the same work.  I guess the idea is that if they all could drive Cadillacs and had only half as many students, they'd actually get something done.

Similarly, the feminists are always the ones talking about "comparable worth," which basically assumes that the most important job in the world - parenting - has a dollar value.  This is of course should be insulting to every parent.  No one could pay me enough to change diapers, wake up at 4 a.m. to soothe an upset daughter, or do any of the other myriad things which involved parenting requires.  To reduce these acts of love and devotion to a mere commercial exchange is to strip parenting of its significance and to reduce the father-child (or mother-child) relationship to a business arrangement.

This probably explains why so many feminists love day care - which does reduce parenting to a business arrangement.

Anyhow, I'm deeply thankful for the three wonderful kids I have, their gorgeous mother, and all the blessings I've had his past year - not the least of which is this fine web site.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving.

The Posse is pleased to announce the addition of Santos to our blogging crew.  A noted expert on cinema, he is also a (like everyone else here) a casual shooter.

A few changes at the ranch

The Posse is pleased to announce a long-awaited change to this here blog.

We now have another guest author, T. Mo to assist in blog duties.  He's an aspiring shooter who prefers six-guns to the automatics and his views are a welcom addition.

Plus, given my erratic schedule of late, it offers another source of content to keep this blog chugging along.

Welcome, T. Mo!

Variations between right and left

The Posse has been posting less frequently of late because of our work schedule.  Unable to post on the job, we have to wait until we get home, have dinner, put the Junior Posse Members to bed, at which time we'd just assume curl up with a glass of bourbon and a decent movie.

It stands in marked contrast we suppose to the leftist who essentially live online, and whose entire existence is political.

Belated Happy New Year

The Posse is pleased to back at the ranch after our extended absence.  We wish a happy New Year to you and yours and offer our best wishes.

While we were out and about the national scene went from strange to truly bizarre.  Unfortunately we have not the time to peel apart this particular onion.

However, we look forward to returning later in the week and resuming our normal blogging schedule.  We are also optimistic about upcoming gun-blogging.

Gerald Ford, R.I.P.

The passing of former President Gerald R. Ford is another milestone in the distancing of this nation from the Watergate era.  "Deep Throat" has been unmasked (and is senile), Nixon is dead and now so is his successor.  We are too young to remember the scandal (our parents recall watching the hearings on the television as we crawled around and took our first steps), but we were steeped in its mythologies from the earliest days.

We were taught that the Democrats were the party of Good Government and that they and they alone could strip away Republican cynicism and restore accountability to the presidency.  Four years of Bill Clinton demonstrated otherwise.

Our prayers go out to the Ford family.  We will also be taking a break from blogging for about a week as we are involved in some of the funeral activities.  We haven't been terribly active of late due to the holidays and a desire to get away from the computer and spend time with the Junior Posse Members - a desire made much stronger by our recent serious illness.

However we look forward to returning in January with more commentary and hopefully an uptick in gunblogging.

In the mean time, Sithkitten and perhaps others will hopefully keep the place warm.

Full power restored

The Posse is pleased to report that we're mostly healthy at this point.  We're off antibiotics and are able to move about and breathe normally.  There are still several layers of tests ahead of us and the extent of damage to our lungs is not yet clear, but we feel and look much better.  Almost back to normal, in fact.

Thanks again to our readers for the prayers and good wishes.
