Wow. That was kind of creepy.
Only last weekend I pointed out that we allow 16-year-olds to get licenses to operate one-ton vehicles that can inflict far more carnage than a gun and only a few days later, the Ohio State Jihadi decided to give it a try.
Once again we see the fallacy of gun control as a method to stop crime. Bad people will always find ways to kill.
In Boston they used bombs built out of pressure cookers.
In Columbus, it was a car and cutlery. Because a cop just happened to be standing at the scene of the attack no one died. Odds on that happening again? Yeah.
The difference between a gun and a knife is this: The gun is more lethal, but the knife is less likely to miss. Contrary to Hollywood, it usually takes several strikes with a blade to kill, unless the attacker is specially trained in the art. However, certain weapons can greatly increase the odds. A machete, for example, is a lot more effective than a steak knife.
The potential for weaponry is virtually limitless, and efforts to stop crime by banning dangerous stuff are doomed to failure.
What is more, they will make killers bent on mass casualties even more effective, because no one will have the means to effectively resist.
I've said it before on this blog but it bears repeating: Concealed carry does not stop all crime. It is not a panacea. There is nothing magical about a private citizen carrying a hand gun that makes crime go away.
What it does is provide people with more options - a chance at survival greater than waiting for the killer to get bored or finish the job.
All of these attackers want the same thing: To kill or injure as many as possible before they are stopped. There is a reason they never attack gun clubs.
Europe has fully embraced arms control in response to rising crime. It has had zero effect. Indeed, what we are now learning is that it wasn't Europe's laws that kept its crime rates low, it was the passive nature of Europeans themselves.
The old slogan is true - it isn't the weapon, its the person who kills. Europe was peaceful because Europeans are peaceful. Add in a bunch of savages, and the peace goes away. Laws do nothing to stop it.
