Another weekend of college football beckons and I for one welcome the respite from the darkening world situation.
The legions are in retreat, the barbarians are across the frontier but I still demand my bread and circuses!
This week the Spartans begin Big Ten action against lowly, dangerous Purdue. The Boilermakers have had something of a streak against us of late, managing to make the game closer than we wanted but in both cases it was a double-digit Spartan victory.
I think the trend will continue. Coach Dantonio wisely pulled out our injured players and allowed considerable substitution against Central Michigan and I think the same dynamic will be at work against Purdue.
MSU has formidable offensive weapons and while the line is somewhat depleted, Purdue will provide valuable experience for our backups. Under the circumstances, I doubt we will run amok but instead will provide something similar to what we have seen so far this year: A solid performance with moderate improvement and (hopefully) more consistent play.
MSU 35, Purdue 14
HURRICANE HARBAUGH HITS MARYLAND: This is a very interesting game. Maryland is a total mess but it will be at home and the Skunk Bears have struggled of late on the road. The Derps are legendarily awful fans and I expect they will avail themselves every opportunity to howl and jeer at the Chosen One.
As for the game outcome, I’m simply not sure. Not enough data, as they say.
I’m going to go with the Skunk Bears simply because I think the Derps are hopeless at the moment: 21-13 Skunk Bears.
UPSET ALERT! Yeah, I’m going with Indiana over the Buckeyes. The Hoosiers are at home and unbeaten and the Buckeyes look like they are sleepwalking.
It takes a strange situation where veteran national champion quarterback sudden suck wind, but that’s what going on in Columbus. Is the fire in the belly gone? We’ll see.Hur
