It's been a great few days for the U.S. Supreme Court. But for our rogue president, today's rulings were just another bitter slapdown. Love it!
As noted in a previous post, the justices ruled for privacy, free speech and the separation of powers in three unanimous votes last week. The fact that liberal Democrat justices voted against Obama in those three rulings underscores the egregiousness of the O-man's overreach.
Today, SCOTUS ruled that the arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby and other closely held corporations (basically all "mom-n-pops" where more than 50 percent of the business value is held by 5 or fewer individuals) cannot be forced to pay for contraceptives and abortifacients in their employees' health care if their religious beliefs are in opposition to that. In other words, religious freedom trumps the obnoxious heavy-handedness of Obamacare mandates.
A second decision held that mandatory public union dues violate some members' First Amendment rights. In many cases, workers cannot be compelled to pay union dues. This obviously strikes a blow against the leftist/big labor money-making machine and shows deference to individual workers' rights.
So that makes five times in the past week that heavy-handed leftism has been struck down by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner plans to file a lawsuit challenging the O-man's use of executive actions. Predictably, the smug celebrity-in-chief has mocked the lawsuit as nothing more than a "stunt." Too bad for Barry's sake that's simply untrue.
And so it goes in the Washington, D.C., sandbox. People are getting really fed up with the B.S. emanating from D.C. (by the way, what does that stand for, "dirty cesspool" or "deeply corrupt"?) We only have a little over four months to go until Election Day, and the misguided policies of our elitist government continue to wreak havoc. Thankfully, sanity has not vanished from the U.S. Supreme Court.
