Just thought I'd have a little fun tonight, because to tell you the truth, I am getting sick to death of reading and hearing about caucuses, PACs, polls, negative advertising, Gingrich, Romney and the rest of them. This crap will go on for six months or so until things are resolved, and I cannot stomach that much of it.
A few years ago I worked with a guy who had a bumper sticker on his truck that said "I LUV Halliburton" (the "LUV" was really a heart). This was in the 2004-2005 era, when liberals' hatred of former Vice President Dick Cheney was palpable and venomous. Cheney had served as CEO of Halliburton during the 1990s, and the company was accused of getting favorable treatment in Iraq. It was to that era's lefties what the Koch Brothers are to today's: a perennial whipping boy.
It cracked me up that this guy had the cajones to drive around with this statement affixed to his vehicle. You just never know how enraged an excitable liberal might become when reading such a gibe. I have thought of a few good digs I'd like to get in against President Obama. But frankly, I don't want to risk getting rear-ended or harassed. Maybe I'm a wimp, but I work in the big city, and that would be asking for trouble.
Today I heard someone mention the web site www.howtoirritatealiberal.com. It has some good suggestions, but could use a lot more. Some of them are oh, so obvious, like own a gun or drive an SUV.
Overall, a great way to irritate liberals is to have a sound understanding of basic economics and familiarity with American history. Being logical, rational and composed help, too.
When libs propose asinine ideas like a mandatory $12-per-hour minimum wage, a few basic statements from Economics 101 can set them straight or at least leave them flustered. And if you cannot get them to listen to the basics of supply and demand, the correlation between wages and prices, or how experience and skill sets affect compensation, perhaps you can cite a clear fact to make your point.
An effective argument about the failure of liberalism would be this: Look at the cities across the nation that have high crime and blight, horrible schools, high taxes, drugs, gangs and middle class flight. Guess which political party has been running these cities and school boards? With few, if any exceptions, it's the Democrats. But these type of conversations assume that a liberal will even be willing to interact in a civil manner with a conservative, listen, and comprehend. That may be asking a lot.
Sometimes the little jab from the bumper sticker can really get the point across and maybe, just maybe get a few liberals to reconsider. One of my favorites back in the day was "More people have died in Ted Kennedy's car than from nuclear power." Of course, with Chernobyl and the Japanese disaster last winter, that's no longer true. But it did underscore the sensationalism and absurdity of the "China Syndrome" mentality.
Libs tend to wear their ideology on their sleeve and are much more likely to shove it down others' throats than conservatives are to force-feed their beliefs. But every now and then I get the urge to fire back.
Hey, go out and have a great time: Tweak a liberal nose today!
