I am not able to come up with a more original or creative headline to this blog as I type my thoughts at 6:54 p.m. EST on 1-1-2012. A while ago I was wallowing in disgust and anger at the Detroit Lions' 45-41 losss to the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay, Wis.
The officials made numerous horrendous calls that went against the Lions, but aside from that, the Lions shot themselves in the foot with way too many idiotic penalties and missed opportunities (fumbles and dropped passes, for example). Green Bay rested many of its starters in anticipation of the playoffs, including All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Charles Woodson. The Lions should have been able to defeat the second-string Packers, but instead, Detroit endured another defeat at Lambau Field, where the Lions have not won since 1991.
Now let's get off the 'bread-and-circuses" fare and switch to our nation and its future. Put simply, tens of millions of Americans are disgusted, disillusioned and dispirited about our nation, the course it is on, and its future. The anger and bitter cynicism are palpable. But all is not lost. Despite woefully misguided economic policies put in place by hard-line statists such as President Barack Obama, his cabinet and his fellow travelers in Congress, and despite the resulting wreckage in our economy, hope is just around the corner. The American people, contrary to the elitist, smug observations of the mainstream media, are not stupid or dense. We know that we've been on the wrong track for the past several years. Even many of those who naively and gullibly voted for Obama in 2008 recognize that they were duped and made a huge mistake.
To reiterate the cliche, it's often darkest before the dawn. We've been on an insane, destructive and lunatic spending / regulatory binge the past three years. Sucking up to tin pot dictators and apologizing for America have become the norm. Barack Obama has displayed his true colors for all the world to see, and the reviews are stinging. Fortunately, our constitution and system of government guarantee the opportunity for redress. Just 10 months from now, Americans will have the opportunity to go to the polls to correct the grievous errors of the voters in 2008. For that we can be grateful.
In the next several months, the messy process of Republican caucuses and primaries will play itself out. Whoever ultimately wins the Republican nomination, that person is sure to incur some barbs from bitter GOP competitors who don't think he's a pure enough conservative. But one thing on which most Republicans can agree (and many Americans, too), is that whoever we can cast a ballot for in November 2012 as an alternative to Barack Obama, that person is bound to be a major breath of fresh air, and undoubtedly a savior to prevent this nation from going over the cliff.
It is that serious. Really. If Barack Obama is re-elected in November 2012, I will seriously consider moving to another country. (More on that later.) But the great news is, I think it is highly unlikely that Americans will make the same mistake twice. Despite the hundreds of billions of dollars the Obama zombies will spend to smear his opponent and try to scare Americans with B.S. about what will happen if a Republican wins the presidency, I am supremely confident the American people won't fall for it.
Mark it down: Barack Obama is a one-term president. A FAILED one-term president. It may be Mitt Romney, or it may be someone else who is sworn in as Commander-in-Chief on Jan. 20, 2013. But whoever it is, rest assured he (or possibly even she) will be a VAST improvement over the current Disaster-in-Chief.
That's a beautiful thought: Only a little more than a year, and we can begin the long road back to prosperity, progress and hope. Now THAT is the kind of hope and change I can believe in.
I've been an MSU football fan since I saw them play the Oregon Ducks on 15 Sept 1978.
I'm so proud to be a Spartan fan. Go Green!
