One of the Democrats’ key talking points in support of health care reform is that it will install cost containment, resulting in major long-term savings and improving the budget outlook.
As anyone who has paid the slightest attention to government programs knows, this is pure fantasy — a whopper of a lie.
It turns out that the Congressional Budget Office states the health care “reform” legislation the Democrats and Obama are pushing would cost far more than the Obama-ites would have you believe. The moderate and conservative Blue Dog Democrats are jumping ship like there's no tomorrow.
It's easy to see why. Obama claiming that we can provide health care coverage to everyone, AND reduce costs, is like me saying I can gorge myself on super-sized McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby’s and Wendy’s food for weeks on end, AND stop exercising, AND STILL LOSE WEIGHT! Yeah, right. What kind of imbeciles does Obama think we are?
PANDERING POLITICIANS — You’d think politicians would realize they rank pretty low on most people’s sh*t list — right down there with used car salesmen, lawyers, and journalists. But then, this would require some humility and introspection, qualities in short supply among the colossal-ego set.
Doesn’t it seem that employees in an already-maligned profession would seek to avoid the behaviors and dress that perpetuate the stereotypes? If you’re pedaling used cars, don’t show up for work in a polyester 1976 style suit with wide lapels and a gaudy wide tie. Avoid the hard sell and the sleazy tactics. If you’re a politician, try to show some semblance of principles.
But President Obama is just the latest in a series of pandering politicians to unwittingly embarrass himself and behave condescendingly to a primarily African-American audience.
Speaking Thursday at the 100th anniversary dinner of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the President spoke in a disingenuous black dialect, as if he were some hustler down on the corner in Harlem. DIsgraceful.
It reminded me of Hillary Clinton’s outrageous imitation of a southern black while she spoke at a black church a couple years ago, and Al Gore’s dreadful imitation of a black minister as he spoke during a campaign rally at a black church in 2000.
I’ve got news for you hacks: The average Joe’s disdain and contempt for you only increases when you resort to this kind of garbage.
THE BRUSHBACK PITCH — Did anyone else cringe when Derek Jeter almost got hit by that wicked high and inside fastball during the All-Star game? I heard a “pop” and thought, “My God, he’s got to be in agony, that hit him right on the forearm or wrist.” Turns out the ball actually hit his bat as he bent backwards to get out of the way.
But I noticed some discussion on the Tigers forum the next day about how the brushback pitch doesn’t seem to be used as often in baseball as it was in the past. Doesn’t it seem there used to be a lot more games where the manager would order the pitcher to either brush back or hit a batter who was crowding the plate (often in retaliation for one of their own batters getting beaned earlier in the game) and typically both benches would empty onto the field into a free-for-all brawl? Does anyone keep stats on bench-clearing brawls? Doubtful.
Fortunately, serious injuries in baseball are rare. But old-timers such as me may recall the infamous hit on Boston Red Sox star Tony Conigliaro’s left cheekbone. He was never the same and retired a few years later at age 30.
