Finally, the President got a backbone and sent that defeatist Democrat stunt into the trash bin - where it was long overdue.
The Posse has longed for this administration to take a stronger line with its critics since the Plame foolishness first popped up. Had the president done so, Congress might still be in GOP hands.
Still, better late than never.
The Dems' next move is not certain. The conventional wisdom is that a new "clean" bill will rapidly move forward and that the radical left, having had its moment in the sun, will retire from the fray.
We think otherwise.
The left is this close to defunding the war. The Pentagon has already had to make adjustments and with even minor legislative delays, the US military will find readiness funds rapidly dwindling.
This is the ultimate dream of the far left: the Air Force reduced to bake sales to fund its bomber purchases. And now it is so close! All Speaker Pelosi has to do is drag her feet ever so slightly and the entire BusHitlerCheneyBurton War Machine will grind to a halt.
Oh, the temptation...
After all, Madame Pelosi did take her sweet time to send the conference report on to the White House. Why else would she do that if not to further erode cash reserves?
On the other hand, the damage the Dems are doing to themselves is considerable. Outside of the Daily Kos fever swamps, outrage is slowly building. This is uncharted territory. Never before has Congress tried to lose a war that was still in progress. South Vietnam was hung out to dry only after US troops were gone. Now we see an actual, boots-on-the-ground betrayal in progress.
One senses that among the veteran Democratic politicians who are more interested in self-preservation than ideological grandstanding, that there is growing disquiet. These are the ones who will cross over and join the suddenly re-united GOP in getting the clean bill through.
The votes are not the problem. Time...is of the essence. Or, to quote Khan in similar circumstances:
"Time is a luxury you do not have, Admiral."

Madame Pelosi...sorry I'm just picturing her as the DC Madame...LOL!

This war had a terrible beginning and continues to dismay those who would dearly protect this country from a defined enemy. For the life of me I have never been able to figure out why we are involved in a situation that clearly is no remaining threat to the U.S. The only reason we are still there is because, like Vietnam, our best leaders cannot admit mistakes. Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon all remained there because they did not want the label of "Loser" attached to their legacies. There was no other reason.

Your post is false in almost every respect.
If by "this war" you mean the liberation of Iraq, it had a singularly spectacular beginning. Arguably, things went too well at first, leading to a feeling of complacency.
As for a "remaining threat," that would be Islamic terrorism (maybe you've heard of it) which will exploit any vacuum created in Iraq by our premature departure.
Far from refusing to admit mistakes, this administration has done so openly, changed leadership and tactics. What more do you require, other than surrender?
Finally, your description of Vietnam is false. Nixon did not "remain" in Vietnam; he engineered America's withdrawal. The Democrats subsequently hung South Vietnam out to dry to ensure that the defeat of our policy was total - and then turned a blind eye to the consequences of their actions.
At least now we are forcing them to put their fingerprints on the defeat they so desperately crave.

Fighting terrorism is like fighting a disease. One sure way to kill it is by killing the host.In fact, it may be the only way left, unless someone comes up with a better idea.We win when we destroy the enemy's capacity, and will, to make war.I am still highly incensed about the attack on our country on September 11, 2001.It is a good thing for the enemy that I am not running the war against terrorism. If I had anything to do with it, the "War on Terrorism" would be over very quickly.Ragheads all over the world should give thanks to Allah that I am a nobody. But, if you venture into my neighborhood with the intent to harm my family or friends, you should be very afraid!
