The Posse has not yet completed its own anniversary, but we are grateful to our many readers. 2004 was truly the year of the blog and we were honored to have our own small part in the stories of the day.
We resolve to continue this experiment in writing and hope to add additional features in the coming year.
Neither of these sites made the mistake often seen by other bloggers: trying to imitate the hated Instapundit.
The problem with emulating the Evil Glenn is pretty obvious. Instapundit can afford to make dinky little posts and links because he has copious amounts of free time and was blogging early enough to have a monstrous readership.
Steven Den Beste offered links to various items, but mostly he provided commentary. It was lengthy, sometimes tedious, but almost always worth reading.
Through Den Beste we learned of the Belmont Club and more than anyone else, Wretchard has inspired us.
We've traded emails with him from time to time and earlier this year, the Posse was almost reduced to the level of a Belmont Club fan site.
And despite all this Wretchard still hasn't put us in his blogroll or even linked in passing.
What we learned from these blogs was that it wasn't so important to be the first one to cover an item. "Linkers" like Instapundit always won those contests - or linked to the people that did.
What "thinkers" like Den Beste and Wretchard demonstrated was that so long as you had something worth reading, you could find an audience.
We've tried to provide unique commentary, whether in world events, politics or firearms. Our gun reviews seem to be our most-read features and we'll continue with them until we've covered every firearm we can get our hands on.
Thank you again for your comments, links and reading what we have to say.
