The draft. Again.

Our patron saint Roger L. Simon links to a story by ABC News that Kerry is raising the possibility of the draft returning.

This is utterly ludicrous, as we have pointed out before.

Military service is the ultimate terror to the anti-war movement. Terrorist attacks pale before it, largely because they are in denial about the very nature of the enemy we face.

The Posse believes, as Powerline does, that this is the result of the Kerry campaign desperately seeking traction.

Powerline also points to this post by Michelle Malkin giving further examples of this scare-mongering depravity.

We would like to add that this is perhaps a retreat to what is familiar: Kerry's turn to anti-war radicalism was what kept him alive during the primaries.

But this race isn't between a field of peaceniks. Most Americans believe the war is real and can be won. They do not believe a draft is likely or necessary.

Moreover, they believe that if the stakes are high enough, if the national danger is great enough, a draft would be justified. Given the choice between a draft or surrender, they will fight.

The same cannot be said with any certainty about John Kerry and his supporters.
